Junior Varsity Coach Chris Brustuen:
Chris is currently the JV coach. This is his 8th year teaching in the district and coaching basketball at Blaine. He teaches special education (EBD) and physical education.
He is married to Jessika Kappelhoff, former all-state basketball player at Blaine. |

Sophomore Coach Alena Peterson
Coach Peterson is in her 7th year of coaching basketball at the high school level. Peterson played basketball at Coon Rapids and then Anoka Ramsey Community College where her teams were quite successful. She graduated from The University of Saint Thomas with a major in mathematics. She has taught at Andover High School and Blaine High School, and now works part-time at Rasmussen College as a Mathematics Instructor. In addition to teaching, Coach Peterson owns and operates an Inflatable Jumper company called Froggy Hops, LLC.
Coach Peterson lives in Andover with her husband and two sons and is excited to announce that they are expecting a new edition to their family in March, 2011. |

Freshman Coach Mark Deretich
Coach Deretich joins the Blaine staff this year after coaching travel teams in the Anoka and Andover associations as well as middle school teams in the Anoka-Hennepin district. As co-director of Sparder Basketball Systems since 2002, Mark has conducted summer instructional camps and designed training programs for teams and individuals. Mark also served as co-director of skill development for the St. Francis girls’ program during the past two basketball seasons. |

Student photos may be used on web sites unless parent permission is denied. The list of denied students is available to the head coach from his Data Management Secretary. This is controlled by the parents checking "deny photo" on the annual SASI Student Information Form.
Photos may not be identified with a student's name (neither first nor last).
Student names may be used as long as they are not in a photo caption.
Student work (in our case achievements/records) may be posted on web sites. It may be identified by first and last name.
(Our policy is first name and last initial with the exception of full names for the captain's page and records page.)

Alumni Information
Blaine welcomes former players back each year for a game with the current Varsity/JV team versus the alumni.
